MKCCC hosts a vibrant and active volunteer initiative. On any given day one can find, a middle school student teaching sign language to our toddlers as part of a mitzvah project, a group from a local corporation helping to revitalize our playgrounds, or a Girl Scout Troop building bird houses with our preschoolers. Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of MKCCC, enriching the lives of our children and providing invaluable support for our staff.
Local schools, churches, synagogues and corporations support the Center through their community service initiatives. Adults from our community serve on our Board of Directors, help with fundraising events, provide support for administrative tasks and work in our classrooms. MKCCC also serves as a training and placement site for Westchester Community college, Fordham University, The Botanical Gardens and The Pleasantville Cottage School.
The MKCCC volunteer initiative is managed by Ruth Goodman, our Volunteer Coordinator who places and schedules the 50 to 60 volunteers a week that help at the Center. Student volunteers are encouraged to work with all age groups and to create projects based on their own interests and talents. They are asked to make an initial commitment of 6 consecutive weeks on a set day and time.
