Local IBM employees and retirees recently volunteered their time with children at MKCCC. Through educational activities, the volunteers worked with children and staff, discussing the environment and the impact they can make as an individual in the classroom or in their community.

Mount Kisco, NY – (November 14, 2012) – Mount Kisco Child Care Center (MKCCC) teamed up with local volunteers in an effort to expand the Center’s environmental focus. The volunteers, IBM employees from the tri-state region, visited the center in an effort to continue to support environmentally-friendly recommendations provided during a previous visit.

Having visited MKCCC in June of 2011 as part of IBM’s Centennial Day of Service, the volunteers returned to analyze the Center’s current energy, water, food recycling, and waste practices.

“We value the importance of teaching environmental responsibility,” said MKCCC Executive Director, Dottie Jordan. “We are so thankful to our friends at IBM for returning and helping us to remain a positive place in our community – both inside and out.”

The children participated in activities including making terrariums from recycled 2 liter soda bottles. Plants for the activity were generously donated by Michael’s Garden Gate Nursery.

“Organizations such as Mount Kisco Child Care Center are essential to shaping the way our community impacts the environment,” said former MKCCC Board President and IBM employee, Steven Wysmuller. “By teaching children their role as environmentally-conscious citizens, we are empowering them to inspire others to take part in caring for our community.”
